How pollution is changing the chemistry of ocean.

Oceans are very important parts our planet as oceans make 2/3 part of the earth. More than 40% oxygen provide by oceans. Oceans also offer employment, medicine, and 20% of protein to the world population. Furthermore, these water bodies also absorb an adequate amount of carbon dioxide that may be up to 25%.
Now you can realize that how these water resources are crucial for us. But, in modern world, amount of carbon dioxide is escalating at high pace in atmosphere. That’s why more CO2 is being dissolved by oceans. There are a number of chemical reactions are occurring in the oceans. By increasing the dissolved amount of CO2 would lead to reduce pH level or can say that would lead to Acidification.
As we all know, most of the CO2 is produced by human activities such industrialization, burning the fossils etc. Researchers have taken sample from the oceans at the depth of 4 Kilometer to analyze surrounding temperature and chemical composition of the water. The data shows that 26% Acidification has been increased from past time and it is estimated that it would reach at 170% in 2100. This rate of increasing Acidification is ten times more than in previous 55 million years ago. Now you can imagine how much disaster we are creation in the ocean.

Effects of Acidification;

The data shows that some Marine species respond negatively because with increase in Acidification Carbonated Ions will decrease. These Carbonated Ions are building blocks for Shells. In acidic environment these shells are getting dissolved which surely will affect the food chain as many species are relies on Shells.

Secondly, 70% of all known coral structures dissolve in water on which all marine species are survived. It has become a Global threat and we should pay attention towards this issue.
Government, industry and other NGOs ought to be share same platform to tackle with this menace. It can be prevented by reducing the emission of Green House gases such as CO2 and CO. It is the question of generation and up coming generation.
