Irfan Khan (1967-2020)



Today, on 29 April 2020, the veteran actor Irfan Khan has passed away at the age of 53. He was well known for his performance in Bollywood and Hollywood films and recognized for his talent. He did many negative and positive roles in different types of movies; not only he did some award winning movies, but also won many awards for his extraordinary roles.

 Personal details;

Sahabzade Irfan Ali Khan was born on 7 January 1967 in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India to a Muslim family. His father late Yaseen ali Khan and Mother late Saeeda Begum ran a tire business. He was a good cricketer and later selected for the CK Nayudu Tournament for the emerging player under 23 years as a stepping stone to First-class game in India. Khan completed his MA in Jaipur, after joined National School of Drama (NSD) in New Delhi in 1984 for studying acting.


Career

When he moved to Mumbai, and acted in plenty of famous serials, including Chanakya, Bharat Ek Khoj, Sara Jahan Hamara, Banegi Apni Baat, Chandrakanta, Shrikant, Star Bestseller, Sparsh and many more. He was unnoticed in earlier films such as Ek Doctor Ki Maut and Such a Long Journey; finally, things got changed when London based director Asif Kapadia gave him the lead role in The Warrior and made him a known face at the international level.
His first Bollywood debut film was Rog released in 2005 and his performance was praised by critics after that he appeared in several films playing negative and supporting roles, in 2004, he won the Filmfare Best Villain Award for his role in film Haasil. In 2007, he appeared in the box office hits Metro and received the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award.
He worked in the third season of the HBO series in Treatment and acted in The Amazing Spider –Man in 2012. Khan co-starred in Jurassic World and Tom Hanks. He also starred in No Bed of Roses, and Karwan. His last film released on 13 March 2020 which got huge success was Angrezi Medium, directed by homi Adajania.


Personal life;

On 23 February 1995, Khan married to Supapa Sikdar, a prominent writer and fellow NSD graduate. He had two sons, Ayan and Babil. His wife said, he changed his name from Irfan to Irrfan, as he likes the sound of extra “r” in the name.

Illness and death;

He was diagnosed with Brain Cancer in February 2018 and with bravery, he announced on his Twitter account that he was suffering from a neuroendocrine Tummor( a rare form of cancer targets various parts of body). He travelled to London for treatment.
Khan was admitted to Kokilaben Bhirunhai Ambani Hospital on 28 April 2020, but he died at the age of 53 from the infection on 29 April 2020, four days after his mother’s death in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India.
